This course is the second in a three-part math series that is intended to bring a student’s math understanding up to college entry level. The class will provide a foundation in the concepts of basic algebra. It covers the topics considered essential in a first algebra course while emphasizing applications of algebra throughout. The notion of the variable is used to formalize ideas and procedures as they apply to the set of real numbers.

  • Basic operations of signed and rational numbers
  • Simplifying and evaluating variable expressions
  • Use of basic formulas from geometry and business
  • Solving equations and inequalities
  • Polynomial expressions and their operations
  • Rational expressions and their operations
  • Factoring polynomials
  • Working with linear equations
  • Graphing equations
  • Solving a system of linear equations or inequalities by graphing

Notes: There is no prerequisite for this class. Students will use a scientific calculator during the class. A certificate of completion is included with the course fee.
